Eruption of the Merapi in Indonesia

In October the Merapi erupted and heavily affected the UII, the place for carrying out the 3rd Indonesian Summer School 2010 and LPAR-17, which only were finished on 16 October.

Since 26 October 2010 the Merapi in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, one of the most active volcanos in the world has erupted. This heavy eruption was the biggest one of the last century. More than 100 victims died and more than 200 thousands were evacuated from their homes because of the eruption. Moreover, it has also stopped economics and education activities. The dangerous area is at a distance of 20 km from the top of the volcano, which means that the area must be clean from all activities.
One of the Indonesian university directly being affected by the eruption is Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII, Islamic University of Indonesia). The university's main campus lies in the dangerous area and the university had to stop all its activities from 1 November. Its campus is also closed for safety. Because the end of the eruption can not be predicted, the university organizes all teachings in other campuses which are far from the volcano. Some teachings, especially offered by the Informatics Department, are online and can be accessed via internet.

Not even two weeks before the volcano started to erupt, in that campus the ICCL together with the Informatics Department of the UII organized the 3rd Indonesian Summer School in Computational Logic sponsored by the DAAD, which was co-located with the 17th International Conference on Logic for Programming, Artificial Intelligence and Reasoning (LPAR-17) being organized by the ICCL, too. Some professors and researchers from TU Dresden participated in the event for giving courses.
